The UAE has strongly condemned renewed Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan and Iraq's Kurdistan Region, describing them as serious violations of sovereignty that threaten regional security and stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement denouncing the strikes, which are part of a broader military conflict that began on February 28, 2026, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated operations against Iran.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has claimed responsibility for the attacks under what it calls Operation True Promise IV, saying the strikes target United States military installations across the region, including the Ali Al Salem airbase in Kuwait, the US Fifth Naval Fleet in Bahrain, and facilities at the Azraq base in Jordan. Iranian authorities have characterized the operations as defensive measures against American military assets, claiming they are not directed at the sovereignty of regional countries themselves.
The UAE statement reaffirmed full solidarity with the affected nations and expressed support for all measures taken to safeguard their security and stability. This position follows the Emirates' own experience with Iranian strikes earlier in the conflict, which prompted Abu Dhabi to close its embassy in Tehran on March 1, 2026, marking a decisive shift away from its previous policy of cautious engagement with Iran.
Regional and international response
The Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary General condemned the Iranian attacks in the strongest terms, describing them as a flagrant violation of state sovereignty and a grave breach of international law and the United Nations Charter.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also denounced the strikes on Arab countries as serious violations of sovereignty and international law, reaffirming the European Union's solidarity with the UAE and other affected states.
Impact on targeted countries
The attacks have taken a significant toll across the region. According to the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defense, 67 Kuwaiti service members have been wounded during the conflict. Kuwait's Emir has stated his country is facing an unprovoked attack from what he described as a neighboring Muslim country that Kuwait considers a friend, emphasizing that Kuwait did not allow the use of its territory for military action against Iran.
In Iraq's Kurdistan Region, monitoring by Christian Peacemaker Teams documented 751 attacks between February 28 and May 28, 2026, resulting in 22 deaths and 112 injuries from Iranian strikes.
The broader conflict has also resulted in casualties within Iran itself, with the Iranian health ministry reporting at least 35 people killed and more than 300 wounded in ongoing American attacks as of mid-July 2026.
