Abu Dhabi's Dh872 million island bridge network set to open in second quarter of 2027
A seven-bridge network will connect Ramhan and Jubail islands with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Highway (E12), Abu Dhabi's Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has announced. The Dh872 million project is scheduled to open in the second quarter of 2027.

Construction and island access
DMT says advanced construction work is already underway. Alongside the seven bridges, the project includes three tunnels and an interchange occupying more than 166,000 square meters. Ramps, roads and service corridors form part of the design, which aims to expand road capacity and help traffic move more smoothly.
The second-quarter opening target was detailed in a DMT press release carried by Zawya.
One of the islands served by the network, Ramhan, is a 400-hectare development by Eagle Hills. More than half of its land is developable, according to The National. Plans for the completed development call for about 1,800 stand-alone villas and 900 marina residences, along with a luxury hotel and a retail promenade.
Supporting Abu Dhabi's growth
DMT places the project within Abu Dhabi's broader transport expansion to support urban and economic growth. Eisa Mubarak Almazrouei, the department's director general of infrastructure development, said the new connections would make both islands easier to reach and support economic development across the emirate.
Almazrouei also said the interchange would strengthen the growing transport network and reflect DMT's commitment to infrastructure built to the highest international standards.
"The project also reflects our strategy to develop integrated communities that enhance quality of life and keep pace with the emirate's rapid urban growth," Almazrouei said.
Lighting and waste-recycling plans
Energy-efficient LED lighting is planned for the development to limit electricity use and light pollution.
DMT expects the project to generate more than 2,200 metric tons of construction waste and plans to recycle approximately 90% of it.
