The Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1 Adds Easier Story Mode and Revises Combat
Update 1.1 is live for The Blood of Dawnwalker, with Rebel Wolves and publisher Bandai Namco announcing changes to targeting, lock-on and difficulty options. The patch also introduces a skill-tree reset potion and includes more than 1,100 other improvements and fixes, according to the studio.

Combat, difficulty and character builds
The combat changes address both enemy targeting and how fights are presented. Players get more freedom to move the camera, clearer enemy attacks, and refinements to locking onto opponents and disengaging from them. Rebel Wolves has also adjusted Dirty Trick behavior. Wccftech's reviewer welcomed the fixes, saying these issues had been noticeable during the review playthrough without substantially diminishing the experience.
The difficulty menu now separates the former Story setting from a new, easier option. As detailed in TimeSaver's patch rundown, the old Story preset has been renamed Forgiving, while the new Story mode adds combat assistance. The five available presets are Story, Forgiving, Fair, Challenging and Duelist.
Forest animals have substantially less health following the update, with the changelog specifically noting reductions for higher-level boars and wolves. Players can also rebuild Coen's skill trees using the newly added Draught of Mind Rebirth.
Traversal, equipment and interface changes
In vampire form, Shadowstep and Planeshift respond better when players target and attach to surfaces. The patch also revises Frame Generation and adds settings to adjust its implementation.
Merchants now let players buy back items at the same price, and the selling interface hides equipped gear. Item upgrade costs have been rebalanced, particularly at higher levels, while a single item can now be equipped in both day and night presets simultaneously. Players can pet animals, too.
Controller users gain deadzone settings in Options, along with fixes for problems that prevented dialogue or item selection. Other repairs restore right-stick map zoom after switching from crafting, make character tabs accessible after loading a prologue save, and stop the cursor from appearing and changing the input mode to mouse and keyboard.
Inventory tooltips now update a stack's weight and value after an item is consumed. The character tab also correctly reflects Active Ability cooldown reductions; previously, the cooldown display could remain unchanged even though ability damage updated. Multiple localization corrections are included. TimeSaver reports that the studio's official feature card lists more than 1,100 additional improvements and fixes beyond the headline additions.
Japanese versions receive separate content updates
Update 1.1 removes blood and gore censorship from the Japanese Steam release. The Japanese PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S editions are scheduled to receive the same change through a separate update planned for early 2027.
A million-selling debut
The Blood of Dawnwalker is Rebel Wolves' debut game. It arrived worldwide on September 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Launch-day patch 1.003.000 introduced three console performance modes and enhancements for PS5 Pro.
Rebel Wolves said sales exceeded 1 million copies during the launch weekend, when about 87% of Steam user reviews were positive. The studio put development costs at approximately $40 million, according to Inven Global.
Critics' reviews appeared ahead of release when the embargo ended on August 31, 2026. The Dawnwalker Wiki's updates archive records aggregate scores of 83 on Metacritic and 84 on OpenCritic.
Rebel Wolves' plans
Founded in 2022, the RPG-focused studio is led by founder Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, the former game director of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He established Rebel Wolves with veterans of CD Projekt Red and other developers. The team has expanded from 20 people to around 166 employees.
Rebel Wolves says its approach to single-player, story-driven RPGs is to sell a complete package, with a strict policy against in-game microtransactions.
As of October 2026, the studio had not announced DLC plans. It has, however, said it intends to add Photo Mode and New Game Plus to The Blood of Dawnwalker and work on a sequel that expands the Dawnwalker universe.
