SpaceX Expected to Lead NVIDIA Vera Rubin Rack Purchases in 2027, Analyst Says

SpaceX is being allocated 20,000 NVIDIA Vera Rubin NVL72 racks after requesting 30,000, according to GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu. Even with that shortfall, he expects Elon Musk's company to be the systems' largest buyer in 2027.

SpaceX leads projected neocloud demand

Pu forecasts an addressable market of 73,000 NVL72 racks by the end of 2026, rising to 96,000 by the end of 2027. SpaceX, which has positioned itself as a cloud computing services provider, would take nearly 21% of the 2027 total under his allocation estimate.

ABMedia reports that Pu puts SpaceX's demand at more than 30,000 racks, representing roughly 10 GW of compute capacity, while expecting deliveries of about 20,000.

His forecast places six major neocloud operators, including SpaceX, CoreWeave and smaller tier-2 providers, at roughly 19,000 racks in 2026 and 34,000 in 2027. Their combined share of industry demand would rise from about 27% to 35%, according to ABMedia's account of his estimates.

TrendForce also projects a shift in who buys these systems. It expects the five major North American cloud service providers to account for about 60% of NVL72 procurement in 2026, down from 70% in 2025. The research firm attributes that change to growing demand from Tesla, including xAI and SpaceX, and from CoreWeave.

Musk describes $40 billion financing effort

Pu's report follows Musk's weekend comments about borrowing across the neocloud sector. Musk said SpaceX had raised $40 billion in debt to fund NVIDIA GPU purchases, crediting the company's high credit rating for its access to financing.

He argued that debt markets were less accommodating to companies without another revenue stream and predicted that "200+ neoclouds are going to see guppy-level death and consolidation. Some will make it through, but not many."

The hardware carries a substantial cost: estimates for a single NVL72 rack often run into millions of dollars, amid record memory-chip prices and constrained memory supply.

Foxconn's role in assembling the racks

NVIDIA produces the Vera Rubin GPUs, while contract manufacturers such as Taiwan's Foxconn assemble them into NVL72 racks. Pu believes Foxconn has secured as much as 45% of SpaceX's data center orders; ABMedia puts the range in his model at roughly 40% to 45%.

The model also anticipates share gains for Foxconn, known as Hon Hai, at Google and Meta. It assigns Pegatron a limited role and points to market-share pressure on Dell and Wistron. Those expectations underpin GF Securities' Buy rating on Hon Hai.

Earlier supply-chain research from investment bank Jefferies described plans by SpaceX and CoreWeave to purchase directly from Taiwanese original design manufacturers beginning in 2027, bypassing Dell. The prospective suppliers include Foxconn, Quanta, Wiwynn and Wistron, leaving Dell at risk of losing customer share.

Higher rack values and persistent supply limits

In an August 28, 2026 forecast, TrendForce put the combined 2027 output value of GB300, VR200 and VR300 NVL72 systems above $710 billion, a 214% year-over-year increase. It projected shipment growth of more than 50% and an average selling price for Vera Rubin systems roughly twice that of GB300.

NVIDIA announced that Vera Rubin had entered mass production in its August 26, 2026 earnings report, according to XenoSpectrum. The company projected that the platform would generate roughly 20% of data center revenue in the third quarter of fiscal 2027.

NVIDIA has described its revenue opportunity per gigawatt as roughly $40 billion for Vera Rubin, compared with $25 billion for Blackwell and $18 billion for Hopper. Those figures measure potential opportunity, not revenue already earned.

The company has built inventory to roughly $32 billion but expects supply to remain a bottleneck at least through the end of fiscal 2028, which falls in late January 2028.
