iPhone Duo delivery dates push into 2027 as global demand outpaces supply
Apple's first foldable iPhone faces delivery delays stretching to January 2027 in UAE and other markets, with pre-orders overwhelming available stock within minutes of launch.

iPhone Duo UAE orders face 2027 delivery dates as demand surges
Customers ordering Apple's iPhone Duo in the UAE may wait until early 2027 to receive their devices, as overwhelming demand and production constraints push delivery dates far beyond the October 23 launch window.
When Gulf News attempted to pre-order through Apple's UAE online store, the checkout displayed an estimated delivery date of January 22, 2027, nearly three months after the scheduled release. The date appeared during one checkout attempt and may vary by model, storage capacity, and availability.
Apple opened pre-orders in the UAE on Friday, October 16, alongside a global rollout spanning 70 countries and regions. An additional 28 countries will receive the device on October 30.
Global supply constraints emerge within minutes
The delivery delays are not unique to the UAE. In the United States, shipping dates slipped to January 2027 within 30 minutes of pre-orders opening. By 8:30 AM Eastern Time on October 16, all colour and storage configurations showed estimated delivery dates of January 25, 2027 or later, according to technology website 9to5Mac.
The reported delays concern new orders placed after the initial surge. Customers who completed purchases earlier may have received delivery dates closer to the original launch.
According to supply chain sources, the iPhone Duo reportedly faced production difficulties ahead of launch, with final assembly yields at Foxconn only slightly above 60 percent as of September 17.
First major launch under new leadership
The iPhone Duo represents a significant milestone for Apple, marking CEO John Ternus's first major product launch since assuming the role on September 1, 2026, following Tim Cook's transition. Ternus unveiled the device on September 9.
Apple's entry into the foldable market positions the company to capture approximately 25 percent of global foldable smartphone market share in 2026, despite entering late in the year. Samsung is projected to hold 32 to 38 percent, while Huawei is forecast at 22 to 27 percent, according to market research firms.
The global foldable smartphone market is expected to grow 21 to 30 percent year-over-year in 2026, with Apple's entry cited as a major driver of this accelerated expansion.
Premium pricing and advanced specifications
The iPhone Duo starts at Dh8,499 for the 256GB version in the UAE. The 512GB model costs Dh9,349, while 1TB and 2TB variants are priced at Dh11,049 and Dh13,599 respectively.
The device features a 5.4-inch outer display and a 7.6-inch screen when unfolded, powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip. The processor is manufactured using TSMC's 2-nanometer process technology, making it the first 2nm smartphone chip. It features a 6-core CPU with speeds reaching 4.93 GHz and a 7-core GPU.
The foldable design allows the device to function as a conventional smartphone when closed and provide a larger display for watching videos, reading, and multitasking when opened. Wide-fold foldable smartphones like the iPhone Duo are forecast to account for 45 percent of global foldable shipments in 2026, rising to 67 percent by 2027 as they become the dominant form factor.
Strong demand in UAE market
The UAE market shows particularly strong appetite for premium smartphones. The country has a smartphone penetration rate exceeding 95 percent, with 199 mobile subscriptions per 100 people as of 2026, positioning it among the world's most connected nations.
Apple currently holds 22.45 percent of the UAE mobile vendor market share as of August 2026, leading Samsung at 17.82 percent and Xiaomi at 16.59 percent.
What buyers should know
Apple's scheduled October 23 UAE launch date remains unchanged, though that date does not guarantee delivery for every customer placing an order.
UAE buyers can check the estimated delivery date for their selected configuration before completing payment through Apple's online store. Customers who have already placed orders can check status and estimated arrival dates through their Apple account or order confirmation.
Delivery estimates may change as Apple processes orders and updates stock availability. Apple has not disclosed how many iPhone Duo units were allocated to the UAE or other markets.
