Arrest a day after the shooting

Officers from Faridabad Police's Sector-30 Crime Branch arrested Mohan alias Monu Sharma near DLF Chowk in Ballabgarh on November 7, 2026. Inspector Anil Kumar led the team. Police said they would bring Sharma before a court and seek custody to question him and gather evidence.

Dhankhar, 42, was a Singapore-based senior vice president at FPT Software, an IT company headquartered in Vietnam, according to The Indian Express. He previously served as Tech Mahindra's Asia-Pacific regional business head in Australia and was originally from Hisar, Haryana.

Police said Dhankhar had returned to Faridabad two days before his death for his nephew's November 24 wedding. The shooting occurred on Dhanteras, two days before Diwali, according to The Indian Express and The Times of India.

Argument in the building's parking area

The confrontation began around 8 p.m. at the Sector 21C residential building where Dhankhar occupied a first-floor home with his wife and two children. According to the police account reported by NDTV, he returned from the gym and found Sharma's car in his assigned parking space.

Dhankhar asked Sharma, a third-floor resident, to move the car. During the ensuing argument, Sharma allegedly retrieved a licensed pistol and opened fire in the parking area. Police said he fired about 15 rounds, hitting Dhankhar nine times. Dhankhar died at the scene.

Surajkund Station House Officer Prahlad Kumar said the argument had quickly turned violent. Investigators recovered several spent cartridge cases, and personnel from Surajkund police station, the Crime Branch and the Forensic Science Laboratory gathered evidence at the building.

Earlier dog dispute and alleged death threat

Police described several days of friction between the households before the shooting. Sharma's son regularly took his dog to relieve itself in the parking area, drawing repeated objections from Dhankhar's son. Arguments four or five days before the killing ended without serious violence, but the dispute remained unresolved. Police also alleged that Sharma verbally abused Dhankhar's son about five days before the shooting.

Hours before he was killed, Dhankhar went to the Ankhir police post to lodge a complaint against Sharma, ThePrint reported, citing PTI. Sharma allegedly threatened him there, saying, "I will not leave you alive by tonight." According to police sources, officials dismissed the threat as hollow and helped the parties reach a compromise.

Five named in the case

Sharma fled with his family after the shooting, police said. The first information report, or FIR, filed on the complaint of Dhankhar's son, names Sharma and four relatives: his wife, Divya; son, Mayank; daughter, Naina; and brother, Hetram. Police said the relatives remained at large and searches were continuing.

Surajkund police registered the case on charges of murder, attempted murder, criminal conspiracy and offenses under the Arms Act. Dhankhar's autopsy was completed Saturday, November 7.

Police sources cited by PTI said Sharma owned two licensed pistols and had three pistols in his possession at the time of the shooting. They also said he had faced allegations of GST evasion about a year earlier, when the GST department raided his premises.

Investigators are examining the families' earlier confrontations as well as the events leading to the shooting.
