Connecting design with business

The fair gathers brands, studios and designers from the region and abroad. Sheikha Latifa said its commercial role extends to connecting creative talent with manufacturers and other industry professionals, supporting the design sector in Dubai and the wider region.

"Ideas can grow into ventures of lasting value when the people behind them have opportunities to connect with the right partners and benefit from professional networks that support their growth," she said.

She said the relationships formed at Downtown Design help designers develop their work and reach broader markets. She also described a commitment to supporting creative talent from the development of an idea through to businesses that can expand internationally from Dubai. Bringing design, production and commerce together, while developing designers' capabilities, can support innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic growth, she said.

UAE talent and international collections

Thirty independent designers and studios are taking part in the Dubai Culture-supported UAE Designer Exhibition. Architect and designer AlZaina Lootah leads its creative direction. Its theme, "Inherited Futures," examines the place of materials, rituals, industries and making traditions in contemporary design.

The exhibition includes Tanween by Tashkeel, the Athath Fellowship by MAKE Abu Dhabi, and 1971–Design Space. Elsewhere among the local exhibitors is Contemporary Spaces, making its fair debut. AD Middle East identifies its founders as Emirati siblings Alya, Maitha and Obaid Al-Suwaidi.

The international program includes Memphis Milano and "Aquae Mirabiles," a Buccellati presentation created with British artist and designer Luke Edward Hall. The Italian Trade Agency is presenting 18 companies, according to the fair's website, spanning furnishings, architectural glass, luxury ceramics, bespoke lighting, acoustic solutions and decorative leatherwork.

Another installation, the Veuve Clicquot Lounge, features "Chasing the Sun," a concept created with British-Nigerian artist and designer Yinka Ilori, according to AD Middle East and the fair's website.

Talks in a locally inspired setting

Dubai-based Bone Studio, also styled BONE, designed The Forum with references to Emirati homes and sikkas, or narrow alleyways. The space uses local, recycled and reusable materials and provides a setting for conversation.

AD Middle East reports that BONE's scenography forms the setting for this edition's Forum talks and keynotes. Paris-based interior architect Tristan Auer was announced as a headline speaker, according to Downtown Design's website.

Across the fair, the presentations examine craft, materials and cross-cultural exchange. Its business program also gives designers, studios and established companies opportunities to meet production specialists, pursue collaborations and introduce their work to new audiences.

Dates, location and the wider festival

Downtown Design runs November 4-8, 2026, at d3. For this edition, it occupies a temporary location a short distance from its usual waterfront site, according to AD Middle East's guide published November 4.

The wider Dubai Design Week runs November 3-8 at d3 for its 12th edition. The festival's official website says it is free to attend and welcomes all ages. Downtown Design's website identifies d3, a creative hub within TECOM Group, as the festival's strategic partner, with support from Dubai Culture.

According to the fair's website, Dubai Design Week draws more than 100,000 visitors to d3 over the week. The same source says Downtown Design featured collections and products from more than 300 brands worldwide in its latest edition.

The festival's Marketplace is scheduled for November 7-8 at d3. The official program describes an outdoor retail event bringing together homegrown businesses and independent makers from the UAE and the region.
