Kishan and Varma power India to series-clinching win over Zimbabwe
India secured a commanding 90-run victory in the second T20I at Harare Sports Club, with Ishan Kishan's 81 and Tilak Varma's unbeaten 60 sealing an unassailable 2-0 series lead and ending a difficult period for captain Shreyas Iyer's team.

India bounced back from their recent struggles with a commanding 90-run victory over Zimbabwe in the second Twenty20 international at Harare Sports Club on Saturday, clinching the series with one match remaining.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan top-scored with 81 off 44 deliveries, while Tilak Varma smashed an unbeaten 60 from just 29 balls as the tourists posted an imposing 219-5. Zimbabwe's chase never gained momentum, with the hosts bowled out for 129 in 17.5 overs.
Turnaround from difficult stretch
The victory marked a significant turnaround for India, who arrived in southern Africa under considerable pressure. The team had endured a difficult stretch following their T20 World Cup triumph in March, losing 2-0 to Ireland in late June before suffering a 4-0 whitewash to England in early July. That run of defeats represented India's longest winless streak in T20I cricket, with six consecutive losses including a record 125-run defeat at Nottingham.
For captain Shreyas Iyer, the series win provided welcome relief after a challenging start to his leadership tenure. Appointed ahead of the Ireland series, Iyer had endured one washout and four defeats in his first five matches in charge before finally securing his maiden series victory as captain.
Kishan continues excellent form
Kishan, who finished as the third-highest run-getter at the 2026 T20 World Cup with 317 runs, continued his excellent form. The left-hander led Jharkhand to their maiden Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title earlier in the domestic season, amassing 517 runs including a century in the final. On Saturday, he struck two sixes and nine fours during a whirlwind innings, putting on 66 runs for the third wicket with Iyer (25) before adding 95 for the fourth with Varma.
Varma, who created history by becoming the first player to score centuries in three consecutive T20 innings last year against South Africa and in domestic cricket, showcased his explosive strokeplay once again. The young left-hander hammered three sixes and five fours, proving particularly severe on anything short or wide.
Teenage prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old who scored his maiden T20I half-century in Thursday's opening match, contributed a brisk 20 off nine balls with a six and three fours before slicing a Richard Ngarava delivery to Blessing Muzarabani at mid-on.
Zimbabwe struggle in chase
Zimbabwe, ranked 10 places below India in the world T20I rankings, struggled from the outset of their chase despite reaching the Super 8 stage of the World Cup earlier this year. Only opener Brian Bennett (32) and wicketkeeper Tadiwanashe Marumani (24) offered meaningful resistance.
Left-arm spinner Abhishek Sharma, another member of India's World Cup-winning squad, claimed his best T20I figures of 3-17 to dismantle the middle order. Yash Thakur also celebrated his first T20I wicket when Bennett's miscued drive outside off-stump was safely pouched by Kishan behind the stumps.
The final match of the three-game series is scheduled for Sunday at the same venue, with India seeking a clean sweep.
