Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and Chairman of the UAE Media Council, has reaffirmed the depth of relations between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, describing them as rooted in shared history and enduring fraternal bonds between two nations united by a common destiny.
In a post on X, Sheikh Abdulla said the relationship continues to be strengthened by the wise leadership of both countries, whose close coordination and clear vision are advancing a future that serves the interests of their peoples and the wider region. He emphasized that responsible media has a duty to reflect this reality objectively and confront any attempts to undermine or misrepresent it.
Regional leaders affirm partnership
His remarks followed a post by Turki Al Sheikh, Chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority since December 2018, who shared a photograph of Prince Khalid bin Salman, the Saudi Minister of Defense, with Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court. Al Sheikh wrote that Saudi Arabia and the UAE share brotherly relations and a deeply rooted partnership.
Dr Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President, commented on the photograph, writing that the biggest story in the Gulf is captured in a single photograph. He had earlier reposted the tweet with a verse emphasizing that unity is the foundation of strength, while division breeds weakness.
Institutional framework for cooperation
The bilateral relationship operates within an institutional framework established through the UAE-Saudi Coordination Council, formed in May 2016 through an agreement signed between the two countries to consolidate and sustain bilateral relations within the objectives of the Gulf Cooperation Council, which both nations helped found in 1981.
Key figures in UAE-Saudi relations
Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was appointed Vice President of the UAE in March 2023, has served as Deputy Prime Minister since 2009 and Chairman of the Presidential Court since 2004. He also chairs multiple key UAE institutions including the Central Bank of the UAE, the Emirates Investment Authority, and the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department.
Prince Khalid bin Salman, who assumed his current role as Saudi Minister of Defense in September 2022, previously served as Deputy Minister of Defense from 2019 to 2022 and as Saudi Ambassador to the United States from 2017 to 2019. As the younger brother of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, he operates within the inner circle of Saudi leadership.
Dr Anwar Gargash, who was appointed Diplomatic Adviser to the UAE President in February 2021, served as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs from 2008 to 2021, bringing extensive diplomatic experience to his current advisory role.
