XPENG opens UAE pre-orders for GX and G9L range-extender SUVs from AED 259,000

UAE buyers can now pre-order XPENG's Kunpeng range-extender SUVs, with the G9L starting at a pre-sale price of AED 259,000 and the GX Flagship Edition priced at AED 299,000. The company announced the launch at its Dubai Brand Night but has not specified delivery dates.

Availability and early orders

XPENG is launching each model in 11 Middle Eastern and African markets simultaneously. Both lists include the UAE, Qatar, Morocco, Tunisia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon, Jordan and Nigeria. Egypt also gets the GX, while Ghana gets the G9L. Neither list includes Saudi Arabia, and the announcement names no Saudi distribution partner.

Dubicars reports that UAE deliveries of the GX are expected to begin in January 2027. That timing remains unconfirmed in XPENG's release. CnEVPost puts the GX's AED 299,000 price at USD 81,410.

XPENG says it has secured more than 4,000 confirmed GX orders across the Middle East and Africa, including 800 in the UAE, before customer deliveries in the region have begun. Earlier figures reported by CnEVPost show the regional order count rising from more than 3,000 on October 17, 2026, to nearly 4,000 by October 22, ahead of the Dubai launch.

Electric drive with a gasoline generator

The UAE versions of the GX and G9L are series hybrids rather than fully battery-electric vehicles. Their electric motors drive the wheels at all times; an onboard generator supplies electricity as needed. Dubicars identifies the generator's engine as a 1.5-liter gasoline unit used only to charge the battery.

XPENG presents this arrangement as a way to retain the driving feel of an EV without depending entirely on charging stations, particularly over the region's long distances, in high temperatures and where charging coverage varies. The system also retains features from XPENG's battery-electric cars, including intelligent-driving software, smart-cockpit functions and full-vehicle over-the-air updates.

For both SUVs, XPENG claims up to 1,210 km of combined range on the NEDC test cycle. It also says their 800V architecture and 5C charging support a 10% to 80% charge in as little as 10.7 minutes at a suitable fast charger. Separately, the company reports that a GX traveled 1,231 km from the UAE to Oman without recharging, passing through desert heat around Liwa.

Specifications reported for the G9L outside the UAE provide more detail. In its October 13, 2026, coverage, CarExpert described a 63 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery with a claimed electric-only WLTP range of 287 km. The range-extender powertrain has claimed output of 370 kW and 695 Nm, with a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 5.4 seconds. Its dedicated 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine generates electricity rather than driving the wheels.

XPENG Guru reports a different set of figures from XPENG's international material: up to 280 km on electricity alone and 1,154 km combined under WLTP, plus gasoline consumption of 7.8 liters per 100 km while maintaining the battery's state of charge. Those WLTP specifications are distinct from the UAE announcement's NEDC-based 1,210 km claim.

Cabin space, equipment and safety

XPENG positions the GX around executive comfort, space and privacy, while the G9L is aimed at families and outdoor travel. Shared equipment includes an 88-inch augmented-reality head-up display, a 21.4-inch 3K rear screen and built-in 12.5-liter dual-zone refrigerators. Both also have Nappa leather upholstery and zero-gravity seats with heating, ventilation and massage.

The GX's three-row cabin accommodates six adults and six 24-inch suitcases, according to XPENG, and its third row folds electrically. The G9L emphasizes flexibility across three rows and offers up to 15 degrees of rear-wheel steering, with a turning radius below 5.5 meters.

CarExpert and XPENG Guru put the G9L's dimensions at 5,120 mm long, approximately 1,998-1,999 mm wide and 1,788 mm tall, with a 3,100 mm wheelbase. It is XPENG's largest SUV in its European lineup.

For safety, XPENG says the G9L was engineered to meet the requirements of four global five-star ratings and underwent 192 crash tests. That is a statement about its development targets and testing, not an announcement that it has received those ratings. XPENG makes no equivalent testing claim for the GX, describing it more generally as reflecting the company's commitment to safety engineering.

Separate models with different international histories

Despite their shared technology, the GX and G9L are distinct models. XPENG Guru identifies their internal codes as G01 and G02, respectively, and lists China, the UAE and Australia as GX markets, while Europe receives the G9L.

The G9L's European launch took place at the Paris Motor Show on October 12, 2026, according to XPENG Guru. Orders opened that day in eight European countries, and production takes place at Magna's plant in Graz, Austria. Beyond the range-extender version, CarExpert and XPENG Guru describe a battery-electric G9L with a 110 kWh battery, 553-591 km of WLTP range depending on trim and power output of up to 430 kW.

The GX launched in China on May 20, 2026, at prices ranging from 279,800 to 359,800 yuan. CnEVPost reported on October 22 that cumulative deliveries had exceeded 30,000 roughly five months after launch. XPENG also said the GX was its fastest model to generate more than 10 billion yuan in revenue.

Regional expansion and ownership support

XPENG's UAE business began in October 2024 with Gulf Star Motors, an Ali & Sons subsidiary. The company subsequently expanded into Qatar through Almana Group, as well as Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon. Tunisia, Bahrain, Morocco and Mauritius joined its network in 2026.

Distribution agreements with Auto Sales in Kuwait and Mohsin Automobiles LLC in Oman move XPENG toward its goal of covering all six GCC markets this year, though the release does not identify a Saudi partner. In Egypt, where the GX is on the launch list but the G9L is not, XPENG says it led premium EV registrations in the first half of 2026.

The expansion comes as overseas sales account for a larger share of XPENG's business. CnEVPost reports that monthly overseas sales first exceeded 10,000 vehicles in September 2026. Across the first nine months of the year, overseas sales rose 100.11% to 59,479 vehicles, representing 20.92% of total deliveries compared with 9.49% a year earlier. Total deliveries over the same period declined 9.20% year over year to 284,367.

By 2027, XPENG aims to operate in more than 20 Middle Eastern and African countries and regions through more than 100 sales and service outlets. The company says that footprint would cover over 90% of its core EV markets. It also plans to introduce six more models developed for the Middle East within a year, with their regional rollout synchronized with China.

XPENG reports 100% cross-regional warranty coverage across the GCC and Levant, with North Africa scheduled to follow in 2027. Its digitalized Dubai spare-parts warehouse can supply service centers in as little as 24 hours, and owners receive round-the-clock vehicle health monitoring. The physical network includes a flagship Abu Dhabi showroom and a large service center in New Cairo.

Robots, flying cars and robotaxi plans

Beyond the SUV launch, XPENG Vice Chairman and President Dr. Brian Gu outlined a regional ambition for Physical AI covering "intelligent vehicles, robotaxis, humanoid robots and flying cars." The Dubai event included a demonstration of the IRON humanoid robot, whose first overseas deliveries are targeted for the first half of 2027.

XPENG expects the Middle East and Africa to be among the first overseas markets for its flying cars. In the UAE, ARIDGE is working with Ras Al Khaimah on a personal-flying-car regulatory sandbox under GCAA oversight. Plans also include a demonstration route between Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah.

The company also intends to explore the region as a market for its YOYO robotaxi. These initiatives remain plans and targets; XPENG has not given a UAE launch date for any of them.
