Middle East Film & Comic Con Abu Dhabi offers something for every budget, whether you walk in with Dh100 or Dh1,000. The challenge is knowing where your money will go before you find yourself surrounded by merchandise from every fandom imaginable.

Since its 2012 launch at Dubai International Marine Club, MEFCC has grown into the region's largest pop culture convention, drawing over 46,000 visitors in 2025. This year's edition, running through September 13 at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi, spans 153,678 square meters of exhibition space across 12 interconnected halls, making it easy to lose track of both time and spending.

The convention floor is packed with major retailers like Comic Cave and The Little Things, but smaller stalls tucked between the larger stores often hold the best finds. T-shirts, figurines, blind boxes, artwork, mugs, pins, keychains, Pokémon cards and character-themed merchandise fill every corner.

Dh100-150: Small treasures from your favourite fandoms

This budget range covers the basics without breaking the bank. Keychains start at Dh35, including One Piece collectibles, Ghibli characters and 3D designs. Stickers featuring hand-painted Pokémon characters show up at various stalls, with artists selling custom designs of Gengar, Bulbasaur and Pikachu.

Moomin fans can find keychains and luggage tags for around Dh100-150. Pins, magnets and quirky artwork appear throughout the smaller stalls, along with character socks featuring Ghibli films, Hello Kitty and other popular franchises. Even bar soaps shaped like Sanrio characters sell for around Dh100.

Art prints start at roughly Dh25, though original pieces can reach Dh100 depending on size and detail.

Dh150-300: Adding merchandise to your collection

T-shirts from stores like Xenpachi and Bonkers typically cost around Dh150. The selection includes Demon Slayer, One Piece and brightly coloured hoodies. Some oversized Ghibli tees mix references from multiple films, combining nostalgia with humour.

Promotions like buy three, get one free can make group purchases more economical, though keeping track of spending across multiple stores requires discipline. Office-themed mugs and character mugs appear at various price points, including designs featuring quotes from films like Mulan.

Dh300-500: Handcrafted items and larger purchases

At this level, handcrafted and hand-painted mugs become an option, particularly for Ghibli enthusiasts. These pieces, often priced around Dh300, stand out as individual artworks rather than mass-produced merchandise.

This budget also allows for splitting purchases between a larger item and several smaller finds: a T-shirt, a print, some Pokémon card packs, a pin or two and a blind box. Hello Kitty fans will find an array of blind box options, including larger boxes that may contain characters like Witch Kuromi.

The global blind box market reflects the popularity of these collectibles, with industry projections showing growth from USD 4.53 billion in 2025 to USD 8.21 billion by 2035. In the UAE, urban hubs have shown particular interest in premium and luxury blind boxes, part of a broader collecting culture spreading across the region.

Dh65 at a time: The blind box trap

Individual blind boxes cost around Dh65 for Sanrio and Pokémon collections. The appeal lies in the surprise element, but one box can quickly become several as collectors chase specific characters.

Setting a limit before starting helps avoid overspending on what initially seems like a small purchase.

Dh500 and up: Pokémon cards and serious collecting

Pokémon card collectors face higher costs quickly. Single packets can sell for around Dh200, and combining cards with figurines or blind boxes pushes budgets higher. With over 85 billion Pokémon Trading Card Game cards produced worldwide as of March 2026, and collecting becoming one of the busiest hobby markets in the UAE, the category draws significant interest.

With Dh1,000, attendees can assemble a proper MEFCC collection. That might include a Dh150 T-shirt, a Dh300 handcrafted mug, a few Dh65 blind boxes, character merchandise and a print. Alternatively, collectors may prefer to invest Dh200 in Pokémon cards and spend the remainder on figurines.

The budget provides flexibility, though it also demonstrates how quickly costs accumulate when browsing a convention floor filled with tempting merchandise.

For casual browsing with the option to buy a few items, Dh150-300 provides room for small purchases. If merchandise collecting is the main goal, Dh300-500 offers more comfort. Serious collectors or those with specific items in mind may find Dh1,000 disappears faster than expected.

Walking the entire convention floor before making purchases helps avoid impulse buying. MEFCC, organized by Informa Connect, has grown from 8,000 attendees at its 2012 debut to over 46,000 in 2025, and the expanded floor space at ADNEC Centre Abu Dhabi reflects that evolution.

The 2026 edition, originally scheduled for April 24-26 but postponed to September 11-13 to allow more preparation time for guests and exhibitors, continues the convention's tradition of bringing pop culture to the Middle East. Setting aside additional funds for food and drinks ensures a full day at the event without budget strain.
